Rogers Boosts 5G at BC Place for FIFA 2026

Rogers Communications announced new improvements to its 5G+ network across the city, including upgrades at BC Place, as preparations ramp up for the FIFA World Cup next summer.

The telecom company says the investment will help fans stay connected during one of the biggest sporting events on the planet. Faster speeds, lower lag, and stronger coverage are all part of the plan.

Vancouver Prepares for a Global Soccer Surge

With thousands of international visitors expected in Vancouver, network demand is set to spike around stadiums, transit stations, hotels, and fan zones.

Rogers says crews spent nearly 7,000 hours installing and planning new infrastructure throughout the city. The company is investing $5 million in Vancouver alone to strengthen wireless coverage before kickoff begins.

The upgrades include added 5G+ spectrum and temporary mobile sites designed to support heavy traffic during matches and large public gatherings.

BC Place Will Be Front and Centre

BC Place is one of Canada’s official venues for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and will host seven matches, including knockout round games.

The stadium already underwent a major connectivity boost before Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in 2024. Rogers says the latest improvements build on that earlier $10 million upgrade.

Fans attending matches are expected to upload photos, stream videos, use navigation apps, and access digital tickets at the same time. Because of that, reliable mobile service has become a key part of the tournament experience.

More Than Just Stadium Coverage

The company says the work goes beyond the stadium itself.

Additional upgrades are being made near transportation hubs, fan zones, hotels, and busy public spaces across Vancouver. Portable “Cells on Wheels” units may also be deployed in crowded areas during the tournament to improve reliability.

The goal is to prevent network slowdowns while millions of fans move around the city during the event.

FIFA 2026 Could Test Vancouver’s Network Like Never Before

Large global events often put huge pressure on mobile infrastructure. However, Rogers believes the expanded 5G+ network will help Vancouver handle the traffic smoothly.

The company says the upgrades are designed not only for FIFA visitors but also for long term use by local residents after the tournament ends.
